Getting Started

You’ve seen or heard enough to get you interested in lawn bowling. Now what? How can you actually get started? How can you get some instruction and some practice so you can decide whether this might be something you want to pursue?  The Elmwood Lawn Bowling Club (ELBC) offers several ways for a newcomer to get started.

SIGN UP FOR LEARN TO BOWL

In May each year, those interested can sign up to attend our Learn to Bowl, which consists of both in class theory and on the greens play. There is a nominal fee of $20/person, which will be reimbursed if you join the club. If you’ve missed it, contact us for a FREE coaching session to get started.

JUST DROP IN

If the gates are open (see regular schedule below) and it is not raining, just drop in and introduce yourself. No advance arrangements are necessary. You will have an opportunity to watch club members playing their usual social draw games (Jitney) and to look around our club facilities.  If there is a Member available at that time, you may have an opportunity to give it a try. If you wish to pursue your interest further, you can schedule a Learn to Bowl session.

SCHEDULE A LESSON

If you missed out on the Learn to Bowl at the start of the season, you are welcome to schedule a FREE coaching session. One of our coaches will take you through the basics of lawn bowling. You will have a chance to find out more about the game and give it a try in a non-game environment.

SO YOU CAN BOWL!

After you become more comfortable with your own ability to bowl, you are welcome to participate in some of our regularly scheduled draw games, which occur on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, and Monday and Wednesday evenings (see below). Following your Learn to Bowl and becoming a member, you will be welcome to participate in all jitneys at no charge. (There is a nominal fee of $1 for use of club bowls each time.)
